Mad for Plaid

Nothing says winter holiday like plaid!  It's cozy and charming, and I love the rustic quality it can bring to a formal interior.

It's hard to beat a tartan or bright red during the holiday season, but I've also seen some great winter white plaids as well.  Those are a great way to keep your decor light and bright, but still with a festive edge.

I hope you are enjoying your holidays, gearing up for Christmas, and experimenting with some wonderfully chic holiday decor!

Interior Door Divinity

I cannot believe Christmas will be here so soon!  I'm looking forward to a relaxing break from school and some time to work on the nursery!

The nursery room is just a little speck, teeny tiny, so there isn't much room for elaborate furniture or art.  I'm thinking instead of accenting the inside door and the closet door.  Everything is relatively neutral in the room, so an accent door may add just the right amount of interest without being too over the top!

Holiday Cheer and Chalkboard Pennant Garland

How has Thanksgiving already come and gone??!!  The past few weeks have been a total whirlwind with many exciting developments:

1. Over the Moon was a hit at Market Noel!

2. We had our big ultrasound appointment and the little one looks all good!  AND...we found out what we are having!  Although, we are keeping that a secret for now....!

3. The in-laws helped us begin setting up the nursery by adding crown molding and putting together the baby bed.

4. We have been thankful and also busy planning for the Paul Meyers Foundation December fundraiser!  We are partnering with About Town magazine to have a holiday party at Avondale Brewery on December 10th.  Please join us!  More info here.

5. The Over The Moon website is up!

While many of our products are on back-order from the market, we do have a few that are ready to ship.  My favorite?  This School Days Pennant, of course!
How cute is this fabric chalkboard garland?  Just like chalkboard, it's reusable for any occasion!

The kit comes with three different ribbons-glitter gold, glitter green, and hot pink velvet-as well as assorted chalks and 18  adjustable pennants, enough to spell out pretty much any message!  Most people think this is a great idea for kids (they could virtually make a new message for each day), but I must say, it's pretty fun for adults too...

We heard so many great ideas of how to use this banner from our customers at Market Noel-having children hold it in the holiday card photo, using it to welcome a specific group of people to your restaurant or church, writing romantic messages to your husband on your anniversary (or just any ole day), draping it over the chair your baby is propped in for his or her " X-Months-Old" photos, and TONS more!  Basically, it's just a really fun and functional gift.

I'm using mine in my nursery!  It's a sweet reminder each time I walk by of how our baby will be here so soon!
As you can see from the above instagram photo, the nursery is still in progress!  Follow Over the Moon on Instagram to see how it develops!  And also to get some sneak peeks at our upcoming projects and events!

Happy Thursday!

Monogram Monday 11.18.13

Can you believe it's Monday, already?  We spent the weekend at a wedding in Little Rock and returned late last night, so I am exhausted!

The wedding was beautiful-lots of rich fall colors and interesting floral arrangements.  Being almost 5 months pregnant, I was, of course, checking out the cakes from the moment we stepped foot in the door.  Rather than a traditional groom's cake, the couple opted for a dessert bar with macaroon (yum!), brittle, and some adorable monogrammed cookies!  I was in heaven!  Somehow, a monogram is just so perfect when it's made out of sugar.

Don't forget to come visit our booth this week at Market Noel! Hope to see you there!

Product Launch soon approaching!

This week has been crazy!  We are quickly approaching our product launch at the Junior League's Market Noel next week.  We are excited, anxious, scatterbrained, and did I mention...excited! Between making some sweet matching outfits and headwear, packaging our products by hand, and getting all of the decor and printables together we need for our booth, we are exhausted!
To top things off, I am going to an out of town wedding this weekend, so my sisters will be on their own to wrap up all the details!  I'm sure they will have a list of last minute things for me to do when I return...I just hope it's not toooooo looooooong......

We've dreamed and talked about starting our own company for years, and for the last 6 months we have been working so hard to get all of ducks in a line to actually do it-establishing the company, research, product development.  It seems like making and selling just a few items would not be so time-consuming, but it is!  And now, we have the products and we are ready to roll.  It's a little bit surreal!

Here's a clip from Talk of Alabama where Margie discusses a couple of the products we will have for sale at Market Noel.  If you're not in town, or if you cannot make it, never fear!  Our website will launch the first week of December.

Nursery Must: Seeing Stars

Now that the cat's out of the bag, I can share what I've been dreaming about lately...the nursery!  I have so many ideas that it's going to be hard to edit them down.  I love a neutral, vintage nursery, like the first image below. To add some simple and sweet interest, I am thinking of stars somewhere.  My room is VERY small, so I'm tempted to paint them on the ceiling....  what do you think?

Exciting News

We've taken the plunge, we are having a baby!

We are scared, nervous, and anxious about having a baby, but mostly we are just excited!  It is hard to imagine that when my mother was my age, she already had 3 children and how young she must've felt during that first pregnancy.  Even as I'm nearing thirty, I still feel too young!  I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies!

But I am so joyful to experience such an amazing time with my husband.
Joey and I have been together now almost 7 years, married for nearly 4 of those years.  It is strange to think back to our first dates when we were so young and new to each other.  I can remember telling my mother that he was different, that I really liked him, and that he treated me with so much respect and chivalry.  I remember thinking he was so much more mature than other college boys, he was already a man, really.

We were really just kids then, naive to both the happiness and the tragedies that life would bring us in 7 short years.  We have grown up together.

I am so fortunate to have this amazing man as my husband.  We have celebrated our college graduation, our graduate school graduations, our first jobs and our first home. He has supported me during the start of a new business, and held me through the loss of loved ones.  We live in a 1 mile radius of my entire family, and he does not complain (most of the time).  He thinks my stop-motion animations are great, not weird, and he carried one of my friends the entire length of Beale Street after she sprained her ankle.  He is strong and smart, and the most gentle person I've ever come across.

This man is a keeper.  This is a man who I am proud and excited to be the father of my children.

Do you know...Britt Bass?

Do you know Britt Bass? Her beautiful abstracts are rocking my world lately.  I love how she applies paint and the thick brush texture it leaves behind.  The texture is even picked up in her prints. Just lovely!  The colors are great too-fleshy pinks with plenty of neutrals and an occasional bright stroke.  These bad boys would look great anywhere.

You can check out more of her work at Leif and Etsy.

Treats or Treats?

Happy Friday!  With Halloween just around the corner, and the holidays following not long after that, I suddenly have a hankering to spend some time in the kitchen.  I love spending the fall in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes and baking ideas! And there are so many cute options out there for Halloween.  I've rounded up my top 5 to try!

1. Halloween bark from the Pioneer Woman.

2. These delightfully wicked brownie coffins from Martha Stewart.  Too cute!

3. How hilarious are these chomping monster cookie sandwiches from Pillsbury?

4. I love this adorable ghostly pizza idea from all you magazine!

5. And of course, we've all seen the popcorn hands all over pinterest, but they really are too cute not to mention!

Happy kitchening!

What's next?

With just weeks to go until until Over the Moon launches at Market Noel in Birmingham, we are in full swing of production, marketing and styling.  One of our top priorities?  Matching dresses and headware, of course!

I know that may sound silly, but we are really striving to add some joy to people's lives, and we think what better way than looking really amazing while we are selling them products?!

As I'm starting to research what type of headware I should make for our glamorous garb, I am trying to find the most cutting edge ideas out there. First it was fascinators, then it was flower crowns.  What do you think is next in headware?

I love these images from a bridal shoot, mostly because of the amazing, vintage-style headware.  Hmmm.....I might be getting an idea already!

Monogram Monday 10.7.13

Love...want...need one of these awesome planner from Whitney English.  Floral AND a gold monogram? Yes, please.

In addition to designing these bad boys, Whitney English is a creative entrepreneur and brand consultant. So, in addition to being stylish, the inside of these bad boys contains worksheets and inspirational quotes as well as the calendars themselves.  While her shop doesn't feature any images of the inside, the description is enough to have me wanting one....

Fall Fashion

Finally, it's fall!  I must admit, I am much more of a sweater, jeans and boots kinda gal than a bikini and that's it kinda gal...so I get super excited when the weather turns a little cooler.  Not to mention that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, my birthday is in October, and I love pumpkin lattes.

I am super excited about changing my wardrobe up from bright turquoise and pink to rich plum, mustard and emerald.  I can almost smell the cloved oranges and apple-pear pies.............

Kate Spade goes Whimsical

I was so excited to hear that we will soon be getting a Kate Spade here in Birmingham!  I have always loved her colorful, lady-like looks.  I even have a pineapple necklace of hers on which I've worn down the pineapple's leaves, and the gold plate has totally worn off.

Upon hearing the news, I promptly went to her website to daydream about what beautiful baubles and darling dresses the store might display and instead found some amazingly whimsical bags!

I love the playfulness of these movie-themed ones!

But my favorite has to be the taxi bag with the apple print.  Too fun!  Check out more of these great bags on the Kate Spade website!
